3 Summer Tips From Our Stylists & Estheticians
Summer is all about sunshine, beach days, and poolside fun, but it can also be one of the toughest seasons for your hair and skin. We asked our stylists and estheticians for their go-to summer tips to help you stay protected all season long.
1. Check Your Sunscreen Ingredients
If you wear hair extensions or have lightened hair, take a look at the ingredient list on your sunscreen. Our biggest tip from our stylists is to avoid sunscreens containing avobenzone, as it can react with keratin and UV light, causing extensions, and sometimes light blonde hair, to develop unwanted pink, peach, or orange discoloration. Choosing a mineral sunscreen is often a safer option for extension wearers while still providing excellent sun protection.
You can do this by choosing an 100% mineral sunscreen. Your stylist can also recommend products that help protect your hair before and after sun exposure
2. Protect Your Hair Before You Swim
Hair acts like a sponge. If it's dry when you jump into the pool or ocean, it can absorb more chlorine or salt water, leaving it feeling dry, brittle, and faded.
Our stylists recommend applying a conditioner or leave-in conditioner before swimming to create a protective barrier and help lock in moisture. A favorite is the Milk Shake Leave-In Conditioner! keep it in your beach bag and spray it generously through your hair before heading into the water. Your hair will thank you later!
milk_shake leave in conditioner for normal or dry hair gives manageability to hair, while protecting its structure and moisture balance. Milk protein gives strength to the hair's structure, and fruit and honey extracts revitalize and give shine to the hair. Integrity 41® and vitamin E protect hair from UV rays, helping to maintain hair color.
A leave in conditioner spray that works great on any hair type to detangle, moisturize and leaves your hair smelling divine with a sweet vanilla fragrance.
3. Don't Skip Face Sunscreen
Our estheticians all agree on one thing: wear sunscreen on your face every single day. Daily SPF is one of the best ways to help prevent premature aging, sun spots, hyperpigmentation, and skin cancer. Even on cloudy days, UV rays can reach your skin, making sunscreen an essential part of your morning routine, not just something for beach days.
